Decision on Biotech Ban in Hands of European Commission

A vote of EU countries was close enough that the commission will make the final decision.

The European Commission recommended the end of what they deemed an illegal ban of biotech crops by Austria. However a vote Tuesday by the 27 member nation's environmental ministers resulted in a hung vote placing the ultimate decision in the hands of the European Commission. Fifteen countries supported keeping the ban, four voted to remove it and eight countries abstained from voting.

No timeline for a vote of the commission has been set and details on how and when the decision will be made were not released.
